Sports Videos Still Have Bounce, Grow 33% Year-Over-Year On YouTube

You’d think there was a limit on how much sports content audiences could watch across all screens, but apparently we’ve yet to reach that point. Data from Tubular Labs’ Q4 category infographics revealed that YouTube views for sports-related videos grew 33% year-over-year as of October 2022.

  • Interestingly, lumberjack sports and sports for people with disabilities had high views, but minimal uploads relative to other categories within sports.

  • Soccer, meanwhile, wasn’t getting the same audience despite its global popularity and greater volume of videos (though that is likely to change when looking again in Q1 after a thrilling World Cup in November and December).

  • While sports media rights reach dizzying heights and continue to buoy TV, they’re also fueling growth on social video platforms — especially with younger audiences looking for more snackable highlights over full games.
