NFL Playoffs Scored a 16% Viewership Share on TV Last Week

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for January 15-21, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

NFL playoff games captured a notable 15.79% viewership share last week, with three days of games (the final Wild Card ones on Monday, plus the Divisional Round on Saturday-Sunday) fueling a drastic increase from the previous week’s 7.37%. Postseason NFL Countdown enjoyed a boost as well, capturing a 0.54% viewership share which lands it in the top ten programs for the week. 

A few additional insights around the most-watched TV programs last week:

  • Basketball bounces up the ranking, with men’s college games taking second place (1.42% of watch-time), while NBA games accounted for 0.97% of minutes watched (No. 4).

  • NCIS has one of the largest week-over-week ranking increases, moving up five spots to No. 6 thanks to rerun marathons on ION, CBS, WE tv, SundanceTV and Paramount Network. 

  • The first week of the 2024 Australian Open tennis tournament takes No. 12 with a 0.54% viewership share, a year-over-year increase from the 0.42% captured by the first week of the 2023 tournament. 

  • Additional week-over-week ranking newcomers include NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt (No. 18), Chicago P.D. (No. 23) and The Five (No. 25).
