NFL Controls Wildcard Weekend Watch-Time

The NFL being a behemoth on TV isn’t breaking news, but it’s notable just the same how much the opening round of the playoffs dominated watch-time. Data from Inscape shows the NFL’s six wildcard games accounted for 21.56% of TV minutes watched from Jan. 14-16, and NFL studio shows nabbed another 3.6%.

  • NFL games delivered over 26% of watch-time on Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 14-15) alone — 11x more than the next most-watched program (men’s college basketball).

  • In primetime, NFL games took up 31.05% of minutes watched from Jan. 14-16, which was about 10x the next most-watched program (the very related Monday Night Countdown on ESPN).
