Football Remains King of TV Watch-Time
Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for December 2-8, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).
As we get into the holiday season, football maintains its grip on TV viewership. The NFL captured a 6.54% viewership share, while college football, including various conference championship games, accounted for 4.13% of watch-time. On the basketball court, men’s college games won over the NBA, with 1.02% and 0.82% viewership shares, respectively.
Some additional highlights from the week:
Thanks largely to a Saturday broadcast on ABC, College Football Scoreboard jumps from No. 14 previously to No. 4 with a 0.85% viewership share (it also aired on ESPN and ESPN2).
All of the Fox News programs in the top 25 increase their chart positions week-over-week, with two (Fox & Friends and America’s Newsroom) breaking into the top ten.
Outside of news, The Big Bang Theory was the only week-over-week ranking newcomer, landing at No. 16 with its 0.53% viewership share fueled by reruns on TBS.
Friends inches up a spot to No. 18 (0.50%), thanks to reruns on TBS as well as Nickelodeon.
On the network side of things, ABC leads with an 8.06% viewership share — read more on The Measure.
