Twitter’s Live NFL Show is Better Bet Than Amazon’s Game Content

While many media companies are jumping to streaming approaches, it appears to have investors in a panic.
That fear has Twitter and Facebook (and others) ready to fill the void -- something their respective futures may depend on.Speaking of Twitter, they might have lost live NFL games to Amazon this season, but they’re atop the pile when it comes to the league’s budding streaming content gravy train. Pigskin fans will be able to get a fix year-round with the NFL’s new live daily Twitter programming, plus pre-game coverage. With fans increasingly watching snippets of the action over full games, Twitter’s play could be the smarter one going forward.Live could also be a growth source for cable, which has long been very DVR-able. Turner’s reinvesting in live via streaming apps and QVC uses live streaming data to drive its business decisions (and revenue). Most Americans are still watching plain old TV too, so can’t necessarily walk away from that model altogether yet. Any existing linear networks will need to pursue a hybrid model for now.CMOs are facing less job security lately. One way to help fix that could be embracing live video.For those addicted to streaming, you can tune in live on airplanes now. GoGo’s new in-flight wireless is strong enough to live-stream, which means you won’t be tethered to pre-set entertainment for your six-hour flight to NY. Not a bad time for Twitter and Facebook to be getting into the produced live video game. Or hey, maybe check out YouTube’s new networks instead.
