TV Viewership Data: Sports Season Is Officially Here

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for August 21-27, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The NFL once again leads the chart, with the final week of the preseason games capturing 3.09% of TV watch-time, up from 2.40% previously. The 2023 Little League Baseball World Series also maintains its ranking position while increasing viewership share from 1.49% to 1.77%.

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • The four-day 2023 Tour Championship that saw golfer Viktor Hovland win his first FedEx Cup captured 1.09% of minutes watched, putting it squarely in third place.

  • College football has entered the field, taking seventh place with the first week of games scoring a 0.84% viewership share.

  • The Fox News Republican primary debate accounted for 0.59% of minutes watched across the whole week, taking No. 11. On the debate day itself, it was the No. 1 program with 3.68% of all minutes watched on Aug. 23.

  • America’s Got Talent rockets from No. 45 to No. 23 week-over-week, with the two-night qualifiers and results episodes capturing a 0.43% viewership share.

On the network side of things, the ranking was remarkably stable week-over-week — get the details over at The Measure.
