Ryder Cup, ‘AGT’ Break Into Top Ten Most-Watched TV Programs

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for September 25 through October 1, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The 44th Ryder Cup swings into third place with a 1.07% viewership share — enough to beat everything else on TV during the week except football. Speaking of, NFL games captured 7.96% of watch-time, a slight increase from the previous week’s 7.89%. College games, on the other hand, saw a week-over-week decrease in minutes watched, down to 5.54% from 6.57% before.

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • With three finale episodes spanning two nights, America’s Got Talent lands at No. 9 with a 0.54% viewership share, the highest it's been all season.

  • Meanwhile, season 24 of The Voice, which kicked off with two nights of blind auditions, jumps into the ranking at No. 14 with 0.50% of minutes watched.

  • Aside from football, House Hunters is the only program that maintained its chart position week-over-week, although its viewership share decreased from 0.56% to 0.52%.

  • Multiple news programs are week-over-week ranking newcomers, including America Reports (No. 18), America’s Newsroom (No. 20), NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt (No. 22), The Five (No. 24) and Fox & Friends (No. 25).
