RNC Coverage, Open Championship Lead TV Watch-Time

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for July 15-21, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

It’s been a crazy few weeks in American politics, to say the least. From the attempted assassination of former President Trump, to the Republican National Convention, to President Biden dropping out of the 2024 election and endorsing VP Kamala Harris in his place…there’s a lot going on. And it’s reflected in the TV program rankings — previously, multiple Fox News shows saw increased viewership shares, a trend that has continued, with the added layer of RNC coverage, which (combined across all networks) captured 2.96% of all minutes watched on TV.

A few more highlights around the most-watched programming:

  • The 2024 Open Championship had a 1.99% viewership share, down from last year’s 2.20% share — but then again, there wasn’t nearly as much breaking news to contend with last July.

  • In baseball, regular season MLB games snagged 0.92% of TV watch-time, while the 2024 MLB All-Star Game slid into No. 19 on the chart (0.53%).

  • Fox News programs continue to gain steam, with Hannity jumping from No. 14 to No. 3 (0.88% share). America Reports with John Roberts & Sandra Smith, Jesse Watters Primetime, Fox & Friends and The Five all move up the ranking as well.
