Football, U.S. Open Lead for TV Watch-Time

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for September 4-10, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The first full week of September had football fans flocking to TV, with NFL games accounting for 8.59% of watch-time, while college football games captured a 5.82% viewership share. The 2023 U.S. Open takes third place with 1.84% of minutes watched (get more insights about this year’s tournament here). 

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • America’s Got Talent continues to march up the ranking, moving from No. 22 to No. 17 as the two-night qualifier episodes continue. 

  • Only two programs maintain their chart positions week-over-week: NCIS at No. 8 and ABC World News Tonight With David Muir (No. 23).

  • Thanks to reruns on ION, POP and CBS, FBI rockets into the ranking at No. 24 with a 0.38% viewership share. 

  • Additional week-over-week ranking newcomers include NFL RedZone (No. 9), Celebrity Family Feud (No. 20) and NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt (No. 22).

On the network side of things, NBC moves up from third to first place week-over-week, capturing a 9.24% viewership share — get the details on The Measure
