Finale Episodes Propel ‘The Voice’ into Top Ten Most-Watched TV Programs

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for December 18-24, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

For the first time since early October, NBC’s The Voice makes the top ten, with the two-night live finale episodes accounting for 0.71% of all minutes watched during the week. Of course, that share doesn’t come close to what the NFL captured (7.26%), but as the regular season starts to wind down we may see some new faces grace the upper ranks of the program chart.

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • Men's college basketball jumps from No. 6 to No. 2 week-over-week, with 0.87% of watch-time, while NBA slips to from fifth to tenth (0.64% share).

  • The OT has the biggest ranking increase week-over-week, moving from No. 25 to No. 11 with a 0.56% viewership share.

  • Week-over-week ranking newcomers include Live With Kelly and Mark (No. 24) and Everybody Loves Raymond (No. 25).

  • Looking specifically at Christmas Eve programming, four holiday classics make the top 25: It’s a Wonderful Life (No. 8 with a 0.87% viewership share for Dec. 24), A Christmas Story (No. 12, 0.86%), Home Alone (No. 16, 0.54%) and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (No. 18, 0.47%).
