College Football, MLB See Week-Over-Week Gains for TV Viewership Share

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for October 9-15, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Although the top three TV programs by watch-time (NFL, college football, MLB) retain ranking positions week-over-week, both college football and MLB saw slight increases in minutes watched, while NFL’s viewership share fell slightly compared to last week. College football games captured 5.32% of all minutes watched (up from 5.12% previously), while MLB Division and League Championship Series games accounted for 2.71% of watch-time (up from 2.66%). 

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • With the Israel/Hamas conflict raging, it’s not surprising that several news programs saw both a week-over-week increase in watch-time and ranking position: CNN News Central moves from No. 13 to No. 8 (0.64% viewership share), while America Reports jumps to No. 10 from No. 22 previously (0.57%) and America’s Newsroom rises from No. 19 to No. 11 (0.57%). 

  • Hannity (No. 23) and Jesse Watters Primetime (No. 24) are the sole week-over-week ranking newcomers.

  • Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Blue Bloods and Friends are the only non-news programs that increase chart positions week-over-week.
