College Football Crushes TV Watch-Time

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for August 28 through September 3, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The college football season is in full swing, with games capturing a notable 7.58% viewership share — far above the 2023 U.S. Open tennis tournament, which takes second place with 1.89% of watch-time. Elsewhere in sports, Major League Baseball rises up the ranking from No. 8 to No. 6 week-over-week, with 0.81% of minutes watched.

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • Thanks to rerun marathons, HGTV’s House Hunters and Paramount Network darling Yellowstone break into the top ten, at No. 7 and No. 9, respectively.

  • America’s Got Talent inches up the chart, moving from No. 23 to No. 22 as the two-night qualifier episodes continue.

  • The Weather Channel’s America’s Morning Headquarters rockets into the ranking at No. 17, with viewers tuning in to follow Hurricane Idalia coverage during the week.

  • Additional week-over-week ranking newcomers include Chicago P.D. (No. 21) and The First 48 (No. 24).
