Basketball, Grammys Lead for TV Watch-Time

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for January 29 through February 4, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

For the first time in ages, there’s a new leader in TV town — but obviously it’s still sports. Men’s college basketball games captured a 2.37% viewership share across the week, up from 1.75% previously. The NBA took second place with 1.28% of minutes watched, a decrease from the previous week’s 1.39%. 

A few more insights around the latest TV program ranking:

  • The 66th Annual Grammy Awards won third place with 1.15% of the week’s watch-time, an increase from the 0.82% share it snagged during the same time period last year. Looking just at Sunday, the Grammys ranked No. 1, beating out the NFL Pro Bowl Games

  • Speaking of the Pro Bowl, it came in at No. 9 with a 0.71% viewership share, an increase from 0.55% last year.

  • Multiple news programs saw week-over-week increases in ranking position as well as viewership share: Fox & Friends, CBS Mornings, America's Newsroom with Bill Hemmer & Dana Perino, The Five, ABC World News Tonight With David Muir and NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt.

  • Below Deck jumped into the ranking at No. 24, thanks to marathons on Bravo ahead of its season 11 premiere.
