‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2: A Week in Review by Canvs

In its first full year, Disney+ has been able to successfully launch several feature films and series, helping to navigate a year largely without in theater viewing. After a hit first season, The Mandalorian Season 2 debuted last week, giving fans more of The Mandalorian himself and fan-favorite Baby Yoda. We decided to take a look at how The Mandalorian’s 2nd season ranked against other releases in 2020, what Emotional Reactions fans expressed towards the new season, and which characters were able to impact the show early in the 2nd season.

The Mandalorian’s First 7-day performance ranked as the number 2 release of the year for Disney+, and the number 1 series release of the year

  • The Disney+ hit series The Mandalorian premiered its second season a week ago to huge success – ranking as the number 2 release of the year for Disney+ behind only Hamilton, and the number 1 series release of the year
  • The season premiere earned over 43K Emotional Reactions and over 145K total Tweets, for a Reaction Rate of 30% in its first week on Disney+
  • The Mandalorian’s Season 2 release was the only non-feature film released by Disney+ to crack the top 5 releases on the platform in 2020

The Mandalorian was able to drive a wide range of Emotional Reactions in its Season 2 premiere

  • In its first week on Disney+, The Mandalorian was able to drive a wide range of Emotional Reactions
  • Top Emotional Reactions in the first 7 days of The Mandalorian were overwhelmingly positive with ‘love’ (32% of Emotional Reactions), ‘excited’ (20% of Emotional Reactions), and ‘enjoy’ (18% of Emotional Reactions) leading the way, while also driving more complex emotions such as ‘crazy’ (6%) and ‘happy’ (4%)

Outside of Mando, Timothy Olyphant and Jon Favreau were able to drive high levels of Emotional Reactions in the Season 2 premiere

  • The Mandalorian himself was able to drive the highest rate of Emotional Reactions over the first 7 days accounting for over 77% of all engagement
