The Gallaghers have wormed their way into our hearts over the past seven years, and the return of season nine this weekend (Sept. 9) reminded us why we love the whirly, swirly ball of chaos that has come to be known as Shameless.The premiere episode did not disappoint, with nearly 3,000 people taking to Twitter to express themselves, according to emotion measurement A.I. company Canvs. The top emotions were fans congratulating (24.2%) the cast on one of the longest runs currently in TV, plus love (19.7%) and excited (19.7%) around the return to the Sunday night lineup.Frank, the patriarch of the family, who left season eight in a tangled web of love affairs with the entire female population of the PTA at his youngest son's school, picked up right where he left off and was the top emotional driver of the episode. In the opening episode, Frank infects everyone with not one, not two, but three STDs, resulting in funny Emotional Reactions (ERs) pouring in and accounting for nearly 40% of all feelings around the character.This storyline helped drive the conversation and got fans emotionally invested, generating 54.4% higher than average reactions than other shows in the genre. With lead star Emmy Rossum leaving after this season, we can definitely expect the show to pull out all the stops.
