Weekly TV Ranking: Oscars Not ‘Kenough’ to Beat Basketball

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for March 4-10, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Men’s college basketball was remarkably steady week-over-week, maintaining both its No. 1 ranking position and viewership share (2.28%). Meanwhile, the NBA stays in second place but saw watch-time slip to 1.57% from 2.05% previously. The 96th Oscars, which dominated Sunday viewership, takes fourth place for the week as a whole with a 1.13% share, right behind Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

A few additional insights about the top programming on TV: 

  • Fueled by the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Puerto Rico Open, PGA Tour golf sails up the chart into fifth place (up from No. 18 previously) with 0.97% of minutes watched. 

  • Fox News’ Super Tuesday coverage broke into the ranking at No. 20 with a 0.51% viewership share (more on Super Tuesday here).

  • House Hunters was a week-over-week chart newcomer, rocketing from No. 35 to No. 21 thanks to rerun marathons on HGTV. 

  • Aside from the above, the only other program that moves up the ranking compared to the previous week is America Reports with John Roberts & Sandra Smith, up to No. 13 from No. 16 with a 0.57% viewership share (a tiny bump up from its previous 0.56% share).
