The Masters Scores More With Viewers In 2023

As Spanish golfer Jon Rahm took home the victory – and the green jacket – for the 2023 Masters Tournament, so did live coverage of the event on TV, according to Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio.

The tournament, which aired live on ESPN Thursday, April 6, and Friday, April 7, and live on CBS Saturday, April 8, and Sunday, April 9, clocked 5.27% of linear minutes watched, topping the program charts by watch-time for all dayparts. Golf Channel’s Live From the Masters highlight show had a 1.42% share duration for that time period.

Compared to 2022, the 2023 tournament had a slightly higher share of watch-time for the weekend days compared to 2022, but was down a bit from last year for the full tournament date range (5.27% vs. 5.87%).

  • Looking at just the weekend April 8-9, The Masters captured 7.48% of all minutes watched, making it the No. 1 program for the weekend. Live From the Masters had 1.43% (No. 2 program), and NCIS had 1.41% share duration (No. 3). 

  • On Sunday, The Masters had 10.54% of minutes watched that day, far ahead of the No. 2 program (again NCIS with 2.17%). 

  • For the full TV week of April 3-9, the 2023 Masters Tournament scored first place with 3.05% of watch-time. 

  • By comparison, the 2022 Masters Tournament:

    • 5.87% of minutes watched April 7-10, with Live from the Masters capturing 1.36% of watch-time during the same period.

    • Looking at just the weekend April 9-10, 2022, the Masters had 7.30% of minutes watched, slightly less than the 2023 weekend. 

    • For the 2022 tournament final day on Sunday, April 10, it had a 8.61% share duration. 

    • 3.44% of watch-time for the full TV week of April 4-10, 2022.
