Reality Check: Here’s Who’s Watching ABC’s ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ and ‘Castaways’

ABC has just wrapped up another season of fan-favorite The Bachelorette — and without skipping a beat the network premiered a fifth season of franchise spinoff Bachelor in Paradise, along with yet another new reality series called Castaways. We partnered with Inscape, the TV measurement company with glass-level data from a panel of more than 9 million smart TVs and devices, to examine viewership trends with a focus on crossover between the series. We found that:

  • of Bachelor in Paradise viewers, 79% also watched The Bachelorette, while only 30% watched the Castaways premiere.
  • for those that tuned into Castaways, 66% watched The Bachelorette and 53% watched Bachelor in Paradise.
  • of The Bachelorette viewers, a mere 9.9% watched Castaways while 21% tuned into Bachelor in Paradise

Viewers of all three series seem to have a thing for reality/competition TV in general, with Big Brother (CBS) topping the list of most popular other shows watched, followed by Survivor (CBS), World of Dance (NBC) and The Wall (NBC).Also of note is where viewers are located, with the Midwest showing particularly strong representation. (On the heatmaps below, the darker the color in the graphic, the more households were tuning in.)
