Samsung's Justin Fromm On The Continued Appeal Of FAST Services

In our latest TVREV Thought Leaders Circle video, Justin Fromm, Head of Insights & Thought Leadership at Samsung Ads, explains what their latest report on FASTs told them about why viewers keep coming back to FAST services, the value they find in library content and why having great stories with characters who resonate still matters.

JUSTIN FROMM: A lot of our advertising partners really wanted to understand consumer motivations for using FAST. They may have understood that it's out-of-the-box cable, and it's available to them, and people explore, but why do people keep watching FAST? So when we spoke to consumers, we asked them how they felt about the quality of content available to them on FAST. Three-quarters say it's the same or better quality than anything else that they watch on TV.

We talk about kind of finding the latest and greatest thing. But the truth is, you know, great content is great content—it doesn't really matter when it was made. And the other thing about acquired content is that a lot of times what consumers are looking for, what we're looking for in television, is to be engrossed, right? To meet characters, and understand and watch them and experience their experiences across a long period of time. And, of course off-network acquired content have hundreds of hours of content available to them.

And I think that's one of the reasons why shows like Suits this year, Friends, perennially are so popular with viewers because, you know, the experiences of those characters resonate, you know, and there's just plenty of content for people to sit down and come back to whenever they want to.
