TV Rankings: A HullaBOWLoo Kick Off to 2025

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for December 30, 2024 through January 5, 2025, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

It may be a new year, but one thing remains the same — football’s domination of TV viewership. NFL games captured nearly 10% of all minutes watched during the week, with college football bowl games littering the rest of the ranking. Of those, the Rose Bowl scored highest with a 1.38% viewership share, followed by the Peach Bowl (1.23%) and the Sugar Bowl (1.17%). All in all, bowl games accounted for about 8% of TV watch-time during the week.

A few more insights from the week:

  • On the basketball court, men’s college games take a win over the Fiesta Bowl (1.10% viewership share vs. 0.95%), while the NBA sinks to No. 23 (from No. 2 previously).

  • CBS won the watch-time award for New Year’s Eve telecasts, with New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash capturing a 0.58% viewership share, while ABC’s Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2025 had a 0.49% share.

  • Outside of sports and special events, week-over-week ranking newcomers included Seinfeld, propelled into No. 20 thanks to reruns on Comedy Central, and Paramount Network darling Yellowstone (No. 21).

  • The 82nd Annual Golden Globes just barely missed making the ranking, coming in at No. 26 with 0.42% of minutes watched.
