TV Program Rankings: Sports Score Big

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for August 26 through September 1, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The first full week of college football season scored a touchdown for TV watch-time, with games capturing a 7.54% viewership share — far ahead of Major League Baseball, which takes second place with a 1.80% share. Other sports-related programming round out the top five: U.S. Open Tennis is third (1.71%), PGA Tour golf putts into fourth (1.03%) and SportsCenter moves into fifth place (0.81%).

A few more highlights around the most-watched TV programming:

  • Although Fox & Friends and America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer & Dana Perino both move up a few chart positions, their respective watch-times were actually flat week-over-week. Meanwhile, The Five, Jesse Watters Primetime and The Ingraham Angle all saw increased viewership shares and rise up the ranking.

  • Fueled by a weekend rerun marathon on Paramount Network, Yellowstone jumps into the ranking at No. 18 (0.48% of minutes watched).

  • House Hunters lands at No. 21 (up from No. 46), with a 0.41% viewership share across two new episodes plus rerun marathons on HGTV.

  • Additional week-over-week ranking newcomers include Dateline (No.22) and College Football Scoreboard (No. 23).
