TV Program Rankings: Olympic Trials Win Gold With Audiences

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for June 17-23, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

The Paris Games are still about a month away, but U.S. Summer Olympic Trials are already winning with audiences, according to Inscape data. Watch-time for the events — airing on NBC and USA Network — jumps to the No. 1 spot overall, with a 2.08% viewership share. That’s up from 0.33% the week before (when the Olympic Trials were No. 50 in our ranking).

Sports owns the entire top-five by minutes watched, too. Following the trials are the Men’s College World Series (1.59% viewership share), MLB action (1.13%), UEFA Euro 2024 (1.08%) and the NBA Finals (1.00%).

A few more insights around the week’s most-watched programming:

  • Along with the Olympics, it’ll also be a summer of soccer, as audiences are already showing. The 2024 European Championship saw watch-time jump week-over-week from 0.42% to 1.08%. Meanwhile, Copa America matches kick off action with 0.63% of minutes watched.

  • Syndicated programs keeps momentum going, as The Big Bang Theory rises from No. 21 to No. 16 by watch-time week-over-week, and House Hunters moves from No. 25 to No. 23.

  • Even with the field narrowing and the College World Series dominated by two conferences — the SEC and ACC — watch-time increases week-over-week, from 0.82 to 1.59%.
