Football Scores, ‘Yellowstone’ Gallops into Ranking of Most-Watched TV Programs

Welcome to our weekly snapshot of TV by the numbers, highlighting the most-watched shows and networks for October 30 through November 5, with insights from Inscape, the currency-grade smart TV ACR data provider and data technology division of Vizio. Data is linear, live TV only and includes all episode types (new and reruns). Rankings are by percent share duration (i.e., time spent watching).

Last week was one of those special times of year when professional sports collide. NFL and college football are deep into their respective seasons, while the NBA is just getting started and MLB wraps up with the World Series. So, it’s not surprising that these big four dominated the TV program ranking — and three (NFL, college football, World Series) saw increased viewership shares week-over-week. 

Some additional insights about the top programming on TV:

  • Yellowstone burst onto the ranking at No. 7 with 0.76% of all minutes watched during the week, fueled by marathons on Paramount Network plus a couple airings on CBS, which has tapped the Western darling to fill schedule holes this fall due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. 

  • Friends vaults from No. 21 to No. 11 week-over-week, as multiple networks including TBS and Nick@Nite paid tribute to the late Matthew Perry by airing marathons and “best of Chandler” episodes throughout the week. 

  • Another program benefitting from TBS marathons was The Big Bang Theory, which jumps from No. 16 from No. 24 the previous week. 

  • Aside from Yellowstone, Chicago Fire was the only other week-over-week ranking newcomer, landing at No. 22 with 0.43% of watch-time.
